Zouma targets Chelsea return by end of 2016

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has targeted a return from the cruciate ligament injury he suffered in February by the end of 2016.

The French international has been out of action since the beginning of the year, after being stretchered off in Chelsea s 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

I don t know when I ll be back out on the pitch but everything is going well, Zouma told The Sun.

I m kicking the ball around a bit – I m not in any pain and I feel good.

Zouma was initially expected to be a part of the France squad for Euro 2016 this summer; however the injury means the 21-year-old s next action will come back in a Chelsea shirt.

When asked about the possibility of him playing again this year, Zouma replied:

Lille 1-0 Real Madrid: David penalty stuns Champions League holders

Jonathan David s first-half penalty saw Lille stun Champions League holders Real Madrid on Wednesday, handing Los Blancos their first loss in any competition since January.

Fifteen-time European champions Madrid had not tasted defeat since going down to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey 36 games ago, while they were also unbeaten in their last 14 Champions League outings.

But Los Blancos were flat from the off in France and had a couple of warnings before David converted from the spot in first-half stoppage time, after Eduardo Camavina handled from Edon Zhegrova s free-kick.

Andriy Lunin, standing in for the injured Thibaut Courtois, had earlier clawed David s attempt onto the post, while Endrick called Lucas Chevalier into action at the other end after becomin…

England set to pull out of 2022 World Cup race

England will withdraw its candidature to host the 2022 World Cup if, as expected, the United States drops its bid for the 2018 event, a top official said on Tuesday.

England, Russia, and the United States, plus joint bids from Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Netherlands are all still in the running for both 2018 and 2022 tournaments.

Australia, Japan, South Korea and Qatar have already declared their intention to concentrate only on 2022.

If the United States pulled out from the 2018 race, they would face no European opposition for the next World Cup as no one continent can stage successive finals.

We are sure it won t be long before the United States will withdraw from 2018 leaving themselves a run on 2022, said David Dein, the international president of En…
